Balázs Izsák has turned to the General Court of the European Union after the Commission made it clear that, despite the successful signature collection, it does not intend to take any substantive action regarding the issue of national regions. The president of the Szekler National Council – who also represents the citizens’ committee of the national regions initiative – seeks to have the General Court annul the European Commission’s decision. The action was registered with the General Court of the European Union on 13 November 2025.

Paul Butcher (Scotland), Erika Casajoana i Daunert (Catalonia), Balázs Izsák (Szeklerland), Wauter Patho (Flanders), and Zsolt Szilágyi (Partium) have created a multilingual Facebook group called Friends of National Regions, with the intention of opening the path, in the virtual space, towards mutual understanding and closer ties among the inhabitants of national regions.

We thank you for your speech delivered on July 10 in Strasbourg in the European Parliament, in which you placed side by side the fate of the Hungarians in Transcarpathia and the cause of the national regions. Your words made it clear that this citizens’ initiative carries significance not only within the framework of the Union, but may also bring hope and support to communities left outside its borders.

Dear Madam Member,

The future of national regions is our common cause. On 10 July, at the plenary session of the European Parliament, you clearly articulated what a broad range of supporters of this initiative have been demanding for years: the issues of communities living in national regions cannot be addressed with fine words and abstract debates alone – concrete action is needed.

Dear Mr. Buda,

In your speech of 10 July in Strasbourg, you expressed views regarding the principles of cohesion policy, the protection of minorities, and the citizens’ initiative concerning national regions. You addressed an important subject, as cohesion and the management of diversity are among the key issues for Europe’s future.
