The European Commission’s defence submission has arrived in the case concerning the European Citizens’ Initiative on national regions, which is currently pending before the Court of Justice of the European Union.
A detailed analysis of the document is currently underway. In the coming days, we will provide the press and the public with comprehensive information about the arguments with which the European Commission seeks to defend its previous decision rejecting the substantive consideration of the issue of national regions.
However, it is already important to emphasize that this case is not merely a legal dispute between the institutions of the European Union and the organizers of an initiative. The European Citizens’ Initiative on national regions is supported by more than one million European citizens and reflects a collective will that Europe should respect and protect its historic, cultural, and linguistic communities.
For this reason, it is particularly significant that in a few days the Day of Szekler Freedom will once again be commemorated.
Those who take part in it also demonstrate that the cause of national regions continues to enjoy real and living community support in Szeklerland.
The presence and solidarity of a community always give strength to just causes. Therefore, this year the Day of Szekler Freedom is not only a remembrance, but also a quiet yet firm message: the cause of national regions cannot be closed by administrative decisions.
